The village of Sauternes and its exceptional wines

In the south of the Gironde, you will stay in the charming little village of Sauternes. We will meet you at the Maison du Sauternes or at the Maison du Vigneron, on the Place de la Mairie. You will find many Sauternes wines and artisanal products there. Advice, discussions and tastings will be on the program.

The appellation of Controlled Origin "Sauternes" is a French sweet wine, produced in one of the subdivisions of the Bordeaux vineyard. Five towns produce this wine: Barsac, Bommes, Fargues, Preignac and Sauternes. During your stay in our guest rooms with swimming pool in Sauternes, organize a tasting of these exceptional wines. Take advantage of your stopover to pass by the most famous châteaux in the region: Château Guiraud, Château Gravas, Château d´Arche, Château Filhot and the famous Château d'Uquem, premier cru superior of Sauternes.

The historic castles of the region

The Gironde is home to many Châteaux steeped in history which are to be discovered and visited. We advise you to start with the Château de Villandraut, classified as a “historic monument”, known as the Château du Pape Clément. This 14th century palace fortress has retained all its charm with its 700 years of history.

Continue your walk through the Castles of the Gironde, with the Château de Budos. This fortified castle was built by Raymond Guilhem de Budos, nephew of Pope Clement IV. Since 1920, the same family has been working the vines to produce wine from the Graves appellation.

The city of Saint-Macaire

The medieval city of Saint-Macaire is located in the south of the Gironde. Let yourself be transported to the Middle Ages, strolling through the alleys of the city center between the ramparts, the remains and the cloisters. Do not miss the remarkable arcaded square "Mercadiou" and the church of Saint-Sauveur-et-Saint-Martin.

The fossil oyster caves

In Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, visit an incredible geological site made up of oyster fossils dating back 22 million years. From this bench of fossilized oysters, you will get a superb view of the Sauternes region. In the small hilltop village of Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, you will appreciate the view over the Bordeaux vineyards and its castle dating from the 15th and 16th centuries.

Canoe trips on the Ciron

Close to our charming guest rooms in Sauternes, discover the river: the Ciron, a tributary of the Garonne. Canoe down the Ciron and stop on one of the shaded and green banks to picnic and contemplate nature. You will pass as close as possible to the forest and ancient monuments.

Bordeaux city

Les Ormeaux is a 25-minute drive from Bordeaux. Visit this exceptional city and its unmissable monuments such as La Cité du Vin, Place de la Bourse and the reflecting pool, the Darwin ecosystem, Porte Cailhau, Saint-André Cathedral and the Aquitaine Museum. Take the opportunity to stroll on the banks of the Garonne!

Chateau Guiraud

We invite you to meet at Château Guiraud, the first Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes, where you can participate in a wine tasting and a visit to the cellar.
