The village of Sauternes and its exceptional wines

In the south of Gironde, you will stay in the charming little village of Sauternes. We invite you to the Maison du Sauternes or the Maison du Vigneron, on the Place de la Mairie. There you will find many wines from Sauternes and artisanal products. Advice, discussions and tastings will be on the agenda.

The "Sauternes" Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée is a French sweet wine, produced in one of the subdivisions of the Bordeaux vineyard. Five communes produce this wine: Barsac, Bommes, Fargues, Preignac and Sauternes. During your stay in our guest rooms with swimming pool in Sauternes, organize a tasting of these exceptional wines. Take advantage of your stopover to visit the most famous châteaux in the region: Château Guiraud, Château Gravas, Château d’Arche, Château Filhot and the famous Château d’Yquem, premier cru supérieur of Sauternes.

Historic castles in the region

The Gironde is home to many castles full of history that are worth discovering and visiting. We recommend starting with the Château de Villandraut, listed as a "historical monument", known as the Château du Pape Clément. This 14th century fortress palace has retained all its charm with its 700 years of history.

Continue your stroll through the castles of the Gironde, with the Château de Budos. This fortified castle was built by Raymond Guilhem de Budos, nephew of Pope Clement IV. Since 1920, the same family has been cultivating the vines to produce wine from the Graves appellation.

The town of Saint-Macaire

The medieval city of Saint-Macaire is located in the South of Gironde. Let yourself be transported to the Middle Ages, strolling through the alleys of the city center between the ramparts, the remains and the cloisters. Don't miss the remarkable arcaded square "Mercadie" and the Saint-Sauveur-et-Saint-Martin church.

Fossil Oyster Caves

In Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, visit an incredible geological site composed of oyster fossils dating back 22 million years. From this bed of fossilized oysters, you will have a superb view of the Sauternes. In the small hilltop village of Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, you will appreciate the view of the Bordeaux vineyards and its Château dating from the 15th and 16th centuries.

Canoeing on the Ciron

Very close to our charming guest rooms in Sauternes, discover the river: the Ciron, a tributary of the Garonne. Go down the Ciron by canoe and stop on one of the shaded and green banks to picnic and contemplate nature. You will pass as close as possible to the forest and ancient monuments

The city of Bordeaux

Les Ormeaux is a 25-minute drive from Bordeaux. Visit this exceptional city and its unmissable monuments such as La Cité du Vin, the Place de la Bourse and the water mirror, the Darwin ecosystem, the Porte Cailhau, the Saint-André Cathedral and the Aquitaine Museum. Take the opportunity to stroll along the quays of the Garonne!

Guiraud Castle

We invite you to Château Guiraud, the first Grand Cru classé of Sauternes, where you can take part in a wine tasting and a visit of the cellar.
